A crane is only as stable as the ground under its outriggers. A pad turns a point load into a spread load, and a good pad does it the same way on every set-up.
Polysource outrigger pads are moulded from premium grade HDPE or UHMWPE, with the weather resistance and the load rating built into the material. They replace timber sleepers, steel plates and whatever was lying in the truck, and they do it at a fraction of the weight.
Every pad has handles cut into it so one person can carry and place it. It will not split, rot, soak up water or lose capacity with age. Sizes below are standard. Other sizes are made to order.

Capacities assume the load is spread evenly across the pad on solid ground. Soft ground, an off-centre foot or a dynamic load reduces what the pad can safely carry. Match the pad to the crane's outrigger load from its chart, then go up a size if the ground is doubtful.
Material is HDPE or UHMWPE depending on size and application. Other dimensions, including rectangular pads for particular outriggers, are made to order. Ask us for the size you need.
Why not sleepers.
Timber works until it does not, and you find out under load.
- Weight
A polyethylene pad is far lighter than a hardwood sleeper of the same footprint, so it goes on and off the truck by hand.
- Consistency
Every pad of a size is the same pad. A sleeper's capacity depends on the tree, the season and how many times it has been left in the rain.
- Weather
Polyethylene does not absorb water, rot, split or host termites. Its capacity does not fall with age.
- Handling
Cut-in handles on every pad. No hooks, no straps, no splinters.
Outrigger pad questions.
Which size for my crane?
Start with the maximum outrigger load from the crane's load chart, not the crane's gross weight, then pick a pad whose capacity clears it with margin for the ground you are on. If you do not have the chart in front of you, ring with the crane make and model and where you are setting up, and we will tell you which pad.
Do they work under EWPs and concrete pumps?
Yes. Anything with a stabiliser leg that puts a point load into the ground. The smaller pads suit scissor lifts and boom lifts, the larger ones suit pumps and mobile cranes.
HDPE or UHMWPE, what is the difference?
Both are polyethylene. UHMWPE has a much longer molecular chain, which gives higher impact strength and wear resistance. We mould in whichever suits the size and the duty. Ask if you have a preference.
Can I get a rectangular pad or a different thickness?
Yes. The seven sizes above are stock. Other dimensions are made to order with a moulding lead time we confirm when we quote.
Do you publish prices?
We quote. Prices move with material and freight, and a written quote for your sizes and your delivery address is more use than a list that is out of date. Ring or use the form.
I need a pad tomorrow. Is that possible?
The seven standard sizes are held in stock at Wollongbar. Ring before you drive anywhere and we will tell you whether it can be collected today or how fast freight will get it to you.
