Black PolyTrac mats strapped on a flatbed truck at a rural depot at first light

Ground protection that goes where the job is.

Temporary access roads, crane set-ups and walkways. Made in Australia from recycled plastic, sold direct to trade and the public, and made to any size the site needs.

Ground protection is a simple idea. Put something between the load and the ground so the vehicle does not sink, the crane does not tip and the turf underneath is still there when you leave.

Polysource makes three products for that job. PolyTrac bog mats for vehicles and plant. Crane outrigger pads for point loads. PolyGrid panels for people. All three are moulded here from recycled plastic, all three are lighter than the timber they replace, and none of them rots, splinters or soaks up water.

We publish the sizes, thicknesses and load figures below because they are the questions every buyer has, and because a mat that is the wrong thickness for the ground is not a saving.

PolyTrac bog mats

Heavy duty temporary road access for trucks, cranes, drilling rigs and plant. Mats lock together with steel joiners fitted from above, so a road goes down in minutes and comes up the same way. Double sided traction pattern, UV stable, and the only load figure that matters is printed here.

Crane outrigger pads

Square pads moulded from HDPE or UHMWPE that spread a crane's outrigger load across soft or uneven ground. Far lighter than sleepers, a predictable capacity every time, and handles cut into the pad so one person can place it.

PolyGrid walkway panels

Recycled polypropylene grating that clips together into a continuous non-slip walkway, platform or pool surround. Thousands of dimples across the surface, a third of it open so grass grows through and water drains, and nothing on it to rust.

Which one, at a glance.

Three products, three different jobs. If the site does more than one of these, it probably needs more than one of them.

Load figures are the manufacturer's stated capability on firm, even ground with the weight spread across the mat or pad. Soft ground, point loads and dynamic loads change the answer. Tell us the site and we will recommend the thickness.

Where they go.

  • Exploration and drilling

Rig pads and access tracks that come up when the hole is finished, leaving the ground as it was.

  • Mining and haul roads

Temporary access across soft sections, laydown areas, and crane pads for lifts. Bulk supply, shipped from Australia.

  • Civil construction

Site access in the wet, protection over services and finished surfaces, walkways for the crew.

  • Cranes and lifting

Outrigger pads sized to the crane, and mats under the tracks or wheels getting it there.

  • Events and festivals

Vehicle access across turf that has to look the same on Monday, and pedestrian walkways that drain.

  • Marinas and boardwalks

PolyGrid on pontoons, jetties and paths to the water, where timber and steel give up.

  • Campsites and caravan parks

Walkways and hardstand that stop the mud without pouring concrete.

  • Lawns and estates

Getting a truck, a crane or a bobcat across a lawn you would rather not replace.

Any size,
made to order.

The standard sizes cover most jobs and we keep them in stock. When they do not, we mould the size you need. Wider mats for a haul road, a longer pad for a particular outrigger, a panel cut to a pontoon. Send the dimensions and the load and a quote comes back with a lead time.

Questions we get about ground protection.

Do the mats degrade in the sun?

No. PolyTrac is moulded from recycled polyethylene with UV protection built into the material, not painted on. They live outside.

How heavy is a mat, and can two people move one?

Weight depends on size and thickness. The thinner mats are a two person lift with the moulded handle slots. The thick heavy duty mats are placed with a machine, which is how they are used on site anyway. Tell us the thickness you are looking at and we will give you the weight.

How do they join together?

PolyTrac mats lock with separate steel joiners that bolt across the join from above, so a road can be laid and lifted without flipping a mat. PolyGrid panels clip to each other in any direction and can be screwed to a sub-frame through the pre-drilled holes.

What colours are there?

PolyTrac comes in black, black check and green. PolyGrid is beige or grey as standard. Ask if the job needs something else.

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum. We sell single pads and single mats direct to the public, and we quote bulk orders for mines and contractors. Freight is quoted with the order.

Can you deliver interstate?

Yes. We ship Australia wide from Wollongbar in New South Wales. Standard sizes are in stock and leave quickly. Custom sizes carry a moulding lead time. Tell us the date you need it and we will say yes or no on the first call.

Tell us the site, the loads and the ground.

Enquiries are individual because sites are. Give us the vehicles, the conditions, the area to cover and the date you need it, and we will come back with the right product, size and thickness, and whether we can hit the date.
